Situated to the west of the North African coast, in the Atlantic Ocean, Lanzarote offers ideal surf conditions, with a constantly warm and pleasant climate and crystal clear water. The island is home to long beach breaks and therefore perfect for those who want to learn sufring or enhance their skills. Advanced surfers will find their delight in one of the famous point breaks of the vulcanic island.
In addition to this, the trade winds blow continuously from March till September, offering perfect kitesurf conditions at the 5 km long Famara sand beach.
Location
Famara is a paradise surf village inside a natural park (biosphere reserve) but with full amenities and commodities. It is located 30km from Lanzarote airport. It is unlike anywhere else on Lanzarote. It boasts the longest beach on the island (5km sandy beach), with a stunning backdrop of 700 meters high cliff. People love Famara because of its laid-back atmosphere, barely touched by tourism. Plenty of surf, chill out and party. It has several restaurants, supermarkets, bars, surf shops, bike rental, wifi-spots and cyber cafés, etc.
La Santa is a small fishermen's village 15 minutes by car from Famara. It has all amenities one might need, with several restaurants, supermarkets, bars, cyber cafés, surf shops, discos, bike rental, etc.... The Surf complex is located 100 meters from the ocean with direct views to some of the best surf spots in Europe such as "El Quemao" and "Morro Negro".
You can choose between accommodation in Famara or in La Santa.
Surf House Famara
It's a large house fully equipped, 30 meters from Famara beach. The house has 3 floors with rooms for 2, 3 and 4 persons, 3 fully equipped kitchens, 3 bathrooms, 3 lounges with TV, radio, DVD, free Wi-fi, outside balcony with hammocks and direct sea view. The house can take up to 12 people. Single rooms are only bookable during low season (extra charge CHF 78.00/ EUR 60.00). For guests, who want to enjoy more privacy can also book private apartments.
Surf Complex La Santa
The surf complex in La Santa offers several one bedroom and two bedroom private apartments, all in the same building. All apartments have views and outside balcony (some apartments have double bed). all apartments offer a fully equipped kitchen, bahtroom, living room with sofa/bed and TV. Linen and towels are provided (once per week).
From mid February to mid January the many beach breaks of Famara are an ideal stamping ground for beginner surfers. The reef and point breaks attract surfers from all over the world throughout the year. Every year in October Famara is host to a WQS surf contest.
The surf course for beginners and intermediates includes transfers, surfboards, wetsuit and a lunch, five course days per week (from 10am until 3pm. 25 h/week). During your surf course, the instructors will be your constant companion in the water. Sunday is a day of rest!
The surf courses for beginners and advanced intermediates will take place right on the Famara beach. Advanced riders can venture some of Lanzarote's best spots near La Santa by themselves. In order to explore these waves, the beautiful island and to be a little more independant, we recommend you to hire a car. Costs are at ca. CHF 160/EUR 140, minimum age for car rental is 23 years.
