The camp base is in the West of Sri Lanka, directly at the beach near Ahangama, a three-hour drive from the airport Colombo. Here the best surf conditions are from November till April. Our surfcamp is located directly on the beach. The closest large town is Galle; we are about a 30 minutes drive further south.
Our camp is far enough from the really busy areas so we don't suffer from crowded surf, but close enough to get to by tuk-tuk for a night out!
Our camp is situated straight in front of the beach you could throw a ball and hit the Ocean from your front door! We have about 8 rooms all with their own bathrooms; all rooms are clean with mosquito nets and ceiling fans. The beach in the front is more or less private for us, we have sun chairs and a concrete based roofed terrace where lunch or afternoon drinks can be served. We have a really cool out door restaurant at the camp where we have dinner together as a group in the evening. Local beer and Arak flow freely over dinner conversation about the days surfing. We regularly have beach BBQs with the whole restaurant actually brought on to the sand in front of the ocean. Tables, chairs and lighting even camp fires it's pretty awesome!
Swells that are generated by the reefs in Indonesia travel through the Indian Ocean all the way to the coast of Sri Lanka. The beach in front is a safe spot which offers great quality white water to practice the basics for beginners. Further out in the line up, it’s very common that we only have to share the waves with surfers staying with us. Either side of the beach break there are reef breaks. The conditions here are ideal even for surfers that only get on their boards a few weeks per year. A great place to learn to surf reefs, deep water easy to paddle out and in! Waves vary from fun beach breaks to reef breaks and everything in between!
The best time for the surf in the south is when we start the camp; from November - March the waves are normally best. We operate the camp until the end of March. There truly is something for everyone, all within a ten-minute walk from our surf accommodation. Our lessons take two sessions every day (1 hour lesson per session, after 1 hour free surf with your guide) of the week.

Transfers: The arrival with the taxi takes about 3 hours from Colombo airport. The taxi will be organised by the camp. Please give Sudden Rush your arrival time at the airport and the flight number with your booking that we can organise the transfer for you.

Mosquitos: Mosquitos and sand flies can be a problem for some people, look into buying some good repellent to apply at night or when lying on the beach and you will be cool.
Activities: All kinds of one or two day excursions can be organized from the camp: Safari, Rain forest, Ancient temple, Snake farm, Turtle sanctuary, Sun set river boat, whale watching and scuba diving. Trips to Candy and Adams peek can be organized.
